Swine Flu And Your Travel Insurance Policy

If you're off travelling soon, you may be wondering how the spread of swine flu might affect your travel plans, and whether or not your insurance will cover you for medical treatment or cancellations resulting from illness. Well you've come to the right place, because we have the answers!

Will I be covered by my travel insurance?

The good news is that virtually all travel insurance providers will cover you for swine flu, so you can buy with confidence.

However, it's important to remember that your policy is only likely to cover you and your family if you haven't developed symptoms before the policy start date. So for example if you take out single trip insurance just before taking a holiday, and yet a member of your family is poorly at the time you buy your insurance, it is unlikely that you'll be able to claim compensation for any resultant cancellation or treatment.

As a rule of thumb, it's not a bad idea to take out insurance starting at least a fortnight before you're due to go away. The virus typically lasts less than a week, so if you're unlucky enough to catch swine flu just before you're due to travel, this will at least provide a ‘buffer zone' of cover.

Also, as with all instances of taking out insurance, it's a smart move to read your terms and conditions, and the exclusions on your policy. You should be able to download a PDF of a provider's policy wording from their website, and can therefore have a quick read before you commit to buy. If you look at the ‘General Exclusions' section of your chosen policy, then swine flu is classed as a ‘Pandemic'. Plus, it's important to check if your policy will cover you for cancellation and curtailment, in case your holiday is cut short or you can't travel at all in the first place.

So is it worth taking out a policy?

Without a travel insurance policy, it's very likely you'd have to shoulder the cost of any swine flu-related treatment, cancellation or curtailment yourself. So it's really worth taking out comprehensive cover, and not simply relying on your EHIC if you have one. That said, we think taking out travel insurance is absolutely essential anyway - swine flu concerns or otherwise.

A few common questions:

Q: What happens if I become ill with swine flu whilst I'm abroad?
A: It's best to get in touch with your travel insurance provider straight away and seek medical advice. They should be able to explain all the necessary steps you need to take. For this reason, it's a good idea to keep their hotline number handy in your wallet or purse.

Q: What if a member of my family contracts swine flu before we travel?
A: If you've taken out a policy for your family then most (but not all) providers will allow you to cancel your trip if your policy includes cancellation cover. If you are unsure then please contact your provider, who will be able to explain.

Q: Which countries are affected by swine flu?
A: Swine flu is now classed as a pandemic, so in theory it could spread anywhere. The countries with the highest number of cases at the time of writing are Mexico, the USA, and the UK.

Q: Can I claim on my policy if I don't want to travel anymore, on account of swine flu concerns?
A: If you're not suffering from swine flu and simply decide you don't want to travel, then this won't be covered by any travel insurance policy. There has to be a genuine medical reason why you can't travel.

Q: Will I get all my holiday costs back in the event of a claim?
A: You will be expected the pay the insurance excess, which can range from £35 up to £200. This is the first part of any insurance claim, and will be deducted from your final payout. Otherwise you should in theory be able to recover your costs, but not exceeding an agreed upper limit if you have one.

Q: My insurance provider is refusing to pay out on my claim… What can I do?
A: Each insurance provider should have a complaints procedure. This will normally be outlined in any documentation they send you, or available on their website. Follow this process and wait for a response. If you are not satisfied with the outcome, you have the right to refer your case to the Financial Ombudsman Service. They will arbitrate the situation and make a decision. Your insurance provider should then accept their decision - however you do also have the right to take this to a judicial court.

Swine Flu: General Information

It's difficult to escape the noise surrounding swine flu at the moment. And in that noise, it's also sometimes difficult to distinguish accurate, useful information from hearsay and bluster. We're all in favour of people making informed decisions, so we've put together a two-part guide to present you with the facts about swine flu. This first part deals with general information, and the second part deals more specifically with how swine flu affects travel insurance.

So what is swine flu?

Swine flu (also ‘pig flu' and ‘hog flu') is a virus which spreads among pigs, of which outbreaks are commonplace globally. It can occasionally infect humans, and a version of the H1N1 subtype is what is currently affecting some people in the UK and worldwide.

When the virus does transmit from pigs to humans it usually comes from people having close contact with live infected swine. You are extremely unlikely to catch it by eating pork, as the virus is killed when cooked at temperatures of 70°C.

What are the symptoms?

Someone suffering from swine flu will have similar complaints to those suffering from regular influenza. The symptoms include fever, chills, coughing, sore throat, body aches, headache, fatigue, and now increasingly frequently diarrhea and vomiting.

Am I at risk?

Anybody could potentially catch an airborne virus, much as they could with regular influenza. But let us be clear here - that doesn't mean that it poses a serious threat to the majority of people who do. The greatest threat is to children younger than five, pregnant women, and people with existing health conditions such as lung, heart, kidney or liver disease, neurological diseases and diabetes. If you are fit and healthy, you've got no real cause to worry - but you should be careful not to spread it if you do catch it, or suspect you've been exposed to it.

What can I do?

Prevention is always better than cure, and a few steps can be taken to reduce the risk of spreading the virus. The NHS advises the following:

• If you feel a cough or sneeze coming on, be sure to cover your nose and mouth with a tissue.
• Dispose of said tissues promptly and carefully.
• Be hygienic. Washing hands frequently for example can stop the spread of the virus from your hands to face, and to others.
• Clean hard surfaces such as door handles regularly.

It's not really possible to eliminate all risk in a practical sense, but there are further precautions you can take. The NHS recommend:

• See that you have a network of ‘flu friends' - i.e. friends or relatives who could help you if you become ill. For example, they could fetch you medicines and supplies if you're poorly, so that you stay at home and limit the chance of spreading the virus.
• Know your NHS number and those of other family members. You can still get treatment if you don't, but knowing them can save any NHS staff that have to deal with you a lot of time, as they will have much easier access to your health records. You can find your number on your NHS card if you still have it, or any letter from your GP, prescribed medication you have or a hospital appointment card or letter.

Treatment

It's an idea to have a supply of antiviral medication handy, such as cough and cold medicines, and start taking them sooner rather than later if you become ill. Also it's worth having a thermometer to see if you have a fever (38°C and above).

At the time of writing, the Department of Health is about to launch the National Flu Service. This will be a hotline and website that will allow sufferers access to swine flu drugs without having to consult a GP. Pregnant women, children younger than one and people with health conditions will still all be referred to GPs..

How to protect yourself from Swine Flu

Once an influenza virus such as Influenza A (H1NI), or Swine Flu as it is commonly known, reaches pandemic proportions any one of us could be at risk of catching the virus, including healthy young adults, older people, pregnant women, young children and the infirm. So far, most cases of fatal Swine Flu infection have occurred in people with weakened immune systems such as the very young and those with severe underlying medical conditions.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) is co-ordinating the global response to Swine Flu and monitoring cases world-wide. WHO reports that the overwhelming majority of patients have experienced mild influenza-like symptoms - such as sore throat, cough, runny nose, fever, malaise, headache, joint/muscle pain - and have made a full recovery within a week, often without the need for medical intervention or the use of antiviral treatment.

But whether we like it or not, there's a virus out there that can attack at random and anyone of us could be susceptible to the infection, and we should all be aware of the warning signs to enable us to seek urgent medical advice when appropriate.

WARNING SIGNS IN ADULTS
* Difficulty in breathing
* Shortness of breath
* Chest pain
* Severe or persistent vomiting
* High fever that lasts for more than three days

WARNING SIGNS IN CHILDREN
* Extreme lethargy, that is, a child that:
* Has difficulty waking up
* Is no longer alert
* Is not playing

If you suffer any of these symptoms, particularly when accompanied by a rapid worsening of your condition, you should seek urgent medical attention in line with the guidance from your own national authority.

What can I do to protect myself from infection?
As there is no vaccine generally available (at the time of writing), the single most effective measure you can take to protect yourself from infection is to wash your hands regularly with soap and hot water, or cleanse them with an alcohol-based hand rub.

The principles of good hygiene are certainly not new to the majority of us, but practised on a more regular basis, especially if you are eating, touching your face, or touching surfaces that are potentially contaminated, may enable us to avoid the spread of infection.

Germs are spread by an infected person through airborne droplets which are expelled by coughing and sneezing. The germs settle on surfaces and can survive for two hours or more. If you come into contact with the germs by touching contaminated surfaces and then touching your face, or breathing in airborne particles, you too can become infected.

Once infected, your best defense is to help your body fight off viral invasion by keeping your immune system strong and healthy. Your immune system thrives on a nutritionally balanced diet including a combination of protein-rich meat, chicken, eggs, milk and diary, zinc-rich fish, pulse vegetables, nuts, seeds, soya-based foods, bright orange and dark green fruits and vegetables such as carrots and spinach, plus a daily intake of vitamin C-rich foods such as peppers and citrus fruits.

The golden rule is to keep abreast of developments in your own country and follow the guidance issued nationally, but overall, the opportunities to enjoy a healthy expatriate lifestyle are fantastic. With consideration given to vigilance, good hygiene, a healthy balanced diet, and having a good quality worldwide health insurance plan, expatriates can relax and enjoy the benefits of their environment with confidence, wherever they are.

Cerebral Palsy and Botox..

First before I can correctly explain about the different medicines for Cerebral Palsy, I would like to explain exactly what it is, so you better understand exactly what the medicine is doing and treating.

Cerebral Palsy is not a virus, it cannot be spread nor is it a progressive issue. Cerebral Palsy is a Physical Disability which tends to occur during the body's development.

The name Cerebral in the disorder comes from the Cerebrum, which is the forepart of the brain. The most anterior. It is also considered the most superior part of the human brain along the nervous system. The cerebrum is the area of the brain in which Cerebral Palsy affects.
But since the disorder is non-progressive the condition does not worsen, but Cerebral Palsy causing or bringing about other different problems is not uncommon.
The condition is usually caused by damage to the motor control centers in the cerebrum during development. 75% of the time this occurs while the child is unborn and still in the mothers womb, 5% are after birth, and 15% up to age 3.

Cerebral Palsy can cause communication problems, vision problems, behavior issues along with seizures.

There is no full on cure for Cerebral Palsy but treatment can prevent secondary issues like the ones listed above.

How is botox and Cerebral Palsy connected?

Botox which is famous for wrinkle prevention and cosmetic surgery does in fact serve an alternate purpose that not many people seem too pay too much attention too.

Botox type A serves as an agent which is a therapeutic muscle relaxer. It helps prevent problems with unwanted spasms in muscles.
So what I'm saying here is some children with cerebral palsy have a problem with muscles spazming and jerking. Botox type A can be used on the children to relax the muscles and make life a little easier for them.

Other forms of Medicine Related to Cerebral Palsy.

Diazepam- Also known as Valium, can help with several issues, some of these problems being:
Sedative, anxiety, seizures, and muscle spasms.
Side effects of Diazepam are: Suppression of REM sleep, impaired co ordinance and balance, nausea, amnesia.

Baclofen- A derivation of gamma-amino butyric acid (GABA) used to treat spastic problems.

Flexeril- Also known as Cyclobenzaprine, serves as a long lasting skeletal muscle relaxant and anelgesic.
Side effects of flexural is drowsiness, depression, dizziness, and blurred vision.

How to Tell When a Man Likes You in 60 Seconds or Less

"Does he like me?" is an age old question. If you weren't so busy being insecure you would know the answer in seconds. You can tell if a guy likes your girlfriends can't you?

Take a step back and notice the signs.

Does he actually look into your eyes? Is he interested in what you have to say? Does he rearrange his schedule to make sure that he can see you? Hmm all good signs.

Does he put up with romantic comedies, your interest in clothes, your friends? Has he actually introduced you to his friends?

Does he act like you are the only woman in the room?

Is he unable to keep himself from touching you? Hand on the arm or the small of your back?

Can you talk for hours? Does he stay on the phone for longer than ten minutes?

Has he casually brought up a movie that just happens to be playing?

These are just a few signs when a man likes you.

Now just because a man likes you doesn't mean that you have to date him. Don't make the mistake of dating a man just because he is there. Not every guy is right for you, even if all of your friends think he is "so cute" or you haven't had a date since Ben and Jerry's was invented.

Learn how to tell if a man likes you, yes, but use your gut instincts to tell if you should go out with him.

How to Make a Man Interested in You

Men are like snowflakes. No two are exactly alike. So answering this question is not as easy as it seems. There are specific things that you can absolutely do to raise a man's interest. But if he likes curvy blonds who love to sky dive and you are a five foot two stick who can't stand heights and has no intention of getting a boob job then getting his attention may not be in your best interest.

You want a man who can appreciate your assets. If you do catch the attention of a man who craves your exact opposite and you try to become that person to please him, you will only end up losing yourself. Why do you think so many people divorce? Before I let you in on the secret to attracting a man, I have one word of advice. Choose wisely.

How to Make a Man Interested in You with Body Language

That said, let's talk about the secret of body language. As you sit in a restaurant, cafe or across the aisle in a classroom, you are unconsciously sending out signals. Sometimes the signal is come to mama and some times it is stay away or get your hand bitten off.

If you want to attract a man you must take control of the signals that you put out. If you are going to a cafe that your guy frequents, leave your books, computer and book bags at home. You don't want to inadvertently place anything in his path. Or send out the signal buzz off I'm busy.

Keep your arms away from your chest. Crossed arms are a definite leave me alone signal.

Instead look him in the eye when he enters a room. Keep making eye contact. Then smile. Nod to let him know you noticed him. Nodding is a gesture that is mostly used by men . When you use it it will catch him off guard a bit and make him notice you.

When launching a campaign to catch a man's attention, take extra care with your appearance. If you are miss nature girl, try adding just a bit of make up to freshen your appearance.

How to Make a Man Interested in You with Scents

Dab an alluring scent on. I do mean dab it. Add a hint behind your ears. A bit on the pulse points of your neck, wrists and behind the knee. Pheromones touched beneath your nostrils can also be a powerful seduction tool. They are odorless and will have his gaze drifting in your direction.

Click on the link at the end of this article to find out more about pheromones.

How to Make a Man Interested in You with Mental Stimulation

What is your guy interested in? Does he wear a particular sport's jersey? Does the mention of his car, boat, motorcycle have him writing sonnets? Does the site of a fishing pole bring tears to his eyes? Show an interest in his passions and he just may show an interest in you. While other women's eyes may glaze over yours will sparkle with interest. A woman who actually listens to him and has a real interest? How could he not find you more attractive? Do some research, find a way to make it exciting. Truly share his enthusiasm

A Few Winning Birthday Cake Designs

Birthdays are fun times to be creative with themes and that, of course, also means themed birthday cakes. The possibilities are virtually endless but there are some themes that come to the forefront for the age groups. In this article, we will look at cakes for preschool age children, elementary school age children, middle school or junior high age kids, teenagers and adults.

Clown themes are always popular with preschool children, whether they are boys or girls. It is a can't miss theme because of the cheerful, bright colors and happy smile of a circus clown. A clown's head cake can be tailored to a girl or a boy very easily by either the choice of bold primary colors for boys or softer, pastel colors for girls. For girls, the clown can even be a girl clown. Either way, this is a very pleasing Birthday cake design for very young children.

As children get into elementary school, the preferences of boy and girls diverge more distinctly. So this means that there are likely to be very different birthday themes for boys and girls. Girls love Barbie, so a Barbie themed cake is ideal. With the many 'faces' of Barbie, this cake can easily reflect your child's particular favorite Barbie. Boys love superheroes and one of the most popular these days is Spiderman. Boys would love a Spiderman themed party and birthday cake.

In middle school or junior high, kids tastes start to change. They are no longer as enthused about Barbies and superheroes as they were just a short time ago. At this age, a fun theme for a birthday cake is based on their favorite food. And what could that possibly be? Well, pizza, of course. This makes a very colorful, fun cake that all will enjoy immensely. It works just as well for the girls as it does for the boys.

For teenagers in high school, tastes become even more sophisticated. A can't miss theme for a birthday for young men and women in this age group is music. So a perfectly themed cake would be that thing that is perpetually attached at nearly all times - an iPod. With the choice of colors available in real iPods, it is easy to have the cake done in the celebrant's favorite color iPod.

Adults are both the easiest and hardest to think of good theme birthday cakes for but there are a few that are wonderful for nearly everyone. Women love flowers, so a flower garden themed birthday cake is a sure to please option. The flowers on the cake can be the favorite of the celebrant and in her favorite color. For a little humor, a man's cake can emulate his most prized possession - the TV remote, of course. This cake can be either a generic remote or a replica of the celebrant's actual remote.

These are all birthday cakes that can be ordered from nearly any bakery that does decorated birthday cakes or, if you are so inclined, you can do them yourself with a little practice. Which ever you choose, they are fun birthday cake designs.

People Management Skills - 5 Key Secrets For Your People Management Success

You be very good at managing your people if you want business success. These are skills that are mostly ones that you can learn and develop, and, of course, it really helps if you have a natural capacity to get on well with people too.

Practicing and building your abilities is not as hard as you might think. Here are the simple secrets that you can focus on to make the difference.

1. Do What It Says On The Tin - Manage!

Your people see the name on your badge, or your door (or your parking space) and they expect you to do what's expected of you. They want you to lead from the front and show you're in charge. This is about leadership; being the last on the ship and heading the charge into battle. When things get tough you dig in and show up.

Managing is about making sure you recognize what your responsibilities are and deliver them, and only them. People management skills deliver by giving others some responsibility and letting them get on with it. And that you are accountable for it all. No-one else; no shirking and blaming others. It's you.

2. Build A Great Team

If you really want to make the best of your people asset, you get great at leveraging the amazing talents of all your people. Squeezing their potential to the full by supporting, guiding and coaching (maybe even 'coaxing' them!), to realize what is possible.

You see, a manager's role is to deliver success. And not just in the results in their business - psst, it's more. People management skills are totally about a legacy of developing and utilizing capability fully. Gluing individual talents together. Making the whole bigger than the sum of the parts.

3. Ooops - And Let's Not Forget Those Results

Bottom line, is that you have to deliver the day to day, year by year business and profits or other success measures expected of you. It's what pays you and your people.

So, you have an obligation to keep your eye on the ball and deliver. Your people will depend on you to lead them to success, with their help, of course (and believe it, they will be your rocks, if you do this right). They trust you to work hard enough to make the numbers stack. In the tough business world we inhabit, their jobs depend on it.

4. Build Relationships

OK - let's rewind a little. It helps you as a people manager if you get on well with people. If you are a people person. It's pretty much a pre-requisite. When you are wringing out performance from your people, it really helps if you have a rapport together.

And it's easy to do.

You show an interest in them. You ask them questions that show an interest in them as people and not just colleagues - what's important in life to them. You listen effectively and hear what they say. More, you start to anticipate what they are on about when they talk to you. Or before even. And, of course, you treat them as equal human beings and show trust and respect to them.

Then it works.

5. Accept Feedback

The final key people management skill is an ability to show a little humility. You aren't perfect - not at all. The very best managers listen hard and learn much from their people too. It's a fine-edged balance that they get just right. Managing how they absorb and react to feedback is a testament to who they are. And they get back the reward for the way they handle what their people share with them about them.

Listen, your best advocates are the people you listen to and help you develop yourself. Then they listen to the constructive way you help them. It's two-way traffic and mutual support. It's invaluable. It's terrific.

Five little steps that will help your people management skills succeed. You may need to flex and change a bit. You may need to gulp down a bit of your pride too and change your behaviors.

And wow - is that OK!

Why Straighteners Are So Popular

Hair straighteners are one of the most popular beauty products on the market, and are currently owned by the majority of teenage girls in Britain and
indeed in the rest of the western world. There are various reasons why hair straighteners, which have only been invented in the last decade, are seen
as so essential by their target market. The first reason, predictably, is because they provide a quick and convenient way to improve the user's
appearance. Making hair look sleek and glossy is very important for women, and this is why most teenage girls and women own their own
straighteners. They are very easy to use, and mean that within a few minutes the owner can have manageable, glossy hair. Having straight hair also
means that it is likely to look healthier, as a sleek texture means that the hair's shine, brought about by the hair's natural oils, will be more prominent.
The colour will also stand out more. The fact that with straighteners all this can be achieved in around half an hour is very appealing to those women
who are concerned with their appearance and the impression that it gives to others. By having hair that is glossy, bright and healthy looking women
are likely to feel more confident, and this increased confidence will reflect into other areas of their life. Hair straighteners give a sophistication, because
they allow hair to look well managed and under control. Hair that looks like this also frames the face well, allowing the owner's features to appear more
defined. Another reason why teenage girls like hair straighteners so much is that they are also often use by celebrities to create glamorous and
exciting hair styles. Peer pressure and an interest in celebrity means that teenage girls will want to idolise and look like the people that they see on the
television and in films, and taking care of their looks and trying to look glamorous is a large part of this.

MY VIEW
